Forward Josh Doan has been recalled from Tucson Roadrunners

Last night, after a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars, General Manager Bill Armstrong dropped a huge bomb. Per Craig Morgan of PHNX, Josh Doan has been recalled from the Tucson Roadrunners and is set to make his NHL debut on Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Originally drafted 37th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Josh Doan is set to etch his name in Arizona hockey history. After being drafted by the Coyotes, Doan played for the Arizona State University Sun Devils in the NCAA before making his professional debut with the Tucson Roadrunners in 2023. When he skates on the ice on Tuesday, he will become the first player to play with all three organizations.

Doan will be the third former Sun Devil to make it to the NHL following in the footsteps of Joey Daccord and Brinson Pasichnuk. Considering the team was in the ACHA playing club hockey as recently as recently as the 2015-16 season, it is astonishing how much progress the program has made.

With his journey from the NCAA to the AHL to the NHL, the son of former Coyotes captain Shane Doan has shown how much hockey has grown in the state of Arizona. Not only were the Sun Devils not playing NCAA hockey ten years ago, but the Roadrunners hadn’t even moved from Springfield, which happened during the 2016-17 season.
