Game Recap

The Arizona Coyotes dropped their final game heading into the All-Star break, falling 3-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes are a tough team, but that does not excuse the Coyotes’ game and the warranted result.

The Coyotes’ loss featured two bright spots: a goal from Logan Cooley and the stellar play of Connor Ingram.

Cooley recorded his sixth of the season when he deflected a pass from Dylan Guenther past Antti Raanta to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead three-quarters of the way through the opening frame. J.J. Moser also assisted on the goal

That goal was the highlight of the Coyotes’ first period, which was the best they played all game.

The second period saw the Carolina Hurricanes tie the game with Martin Nečas just under eight minutes in with his 13th of the season. That was the only power play that the Hurricanes had, so the fact that the Coyotes were limited to just three shots on goal is entirely unacceptable. Carolina on the other hand, had 14 shots on goal.

But despite the Coyotes’ poor play in the second, the game was still tied going into the final period, so the Coyotes just needed to win the period, and they would win the game. Instead, the Desert Dogs failed to register a single shot on goal while allowing the Hurricanes to record 18. Carolina only had one power play, but you wouldn’t know that by looking at the shot total.

Connor Ingram definitely came up big with 36 saves on 39 shots. There is no reason the game was as close as it was, and it required stellar play from the Yotes’ netminder.

With the All-Star break coming up, the Coyotes will have time to sit and decide how they will play moving forward. Overall, they have been what we expected, but some of their games have been well below the standard they should have for themselves.
