Game Recap

The Arizona Coyotes’ win streak is officially over. After winning their last five games, the Coyotes fell 4-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Flyers took control of the game early, getting their first goal midway through the opening frame. Travis Konecny got the Flyers on the board first off a faceoff when his shot hit goaltender Connor Ingram and went up and over him into the back of the net.

It was a fortunate bounce for the Flyers, but they didn’t take long to double their lead. Joel Farabee found an open spot on the ice behind Ingram and tapped in a pass from Cam Atkinson to make it 2-0 Flyers.

But, the Coyotes would at least finish strong, with their lone goal of the game. Lawson Crouse lit the lamp for the Desert Dogs, scoring his 11th of the season with Matias Maccelli and Jason Zucker assisting on the goal.

The goal came immediately after the Coyotes’ power play expired, and Crouse was able to stand unopposed in front of the Flyer’s net. It was a pretty weak period for the Coyotes, but at least they had something to build off of going into the first break.

Unfortunately, they let any momentum go early in the second. With Sean Couturier in the box for hooking, the Coyotes had their second power play of the game and a chance to make the Flyers pay. What actually happened was Konecny getting sprung and scoring short-handed, giving Philadelphia a 3-1 lead.

That seemed to kill any hope for the Coyotes. They had another power play late in the second but couldn’t get anything going. Cam York would make it 4-1 early in the third period, putting the final nail in the coffin of any comeback chances.

The Flyers did a great job shutting down the Coyotes’ power play, which had been a critical aspect of their win streak. Crouse may have scored seconds after the Yote’s second power play expired, but the Desert Dogs had three power plays and only took one shot on goal.

It isn’t surprising that the Coyotes had difficulties solving goaltender Carter Hart. Hart has been solid this season, and the Flyers have done an excellent job at keeping their opponents from scoring all season. The best thing to do for the Yotes is shake it off and remember what they did right during the win streak as they head off on the road again.
