The waiver wire gives, and the wire takes.

A year and a day ago, the Arizona Coyotes claimed goaltender Connor Ingram when the Nashville Predators attempted to send him to their AHL team. Today, the Colorado Avalanche claimed goaltender Ivan Prosvetov as the Coyotes tried to send him to their AHL affiliate.

The Coyotes drafted Prosvetov 114th overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft from the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL. Prosvetov would follow that up with a season in the OHL with the Saginaw Spirit, which saw him named to the Third All-Star Team before he jumped to professional hockey.

Prosvetov played five games in the ECHL with the Rapid City Rush during the 2019-20 season, but he mainly played with the Tucson Roadrunners. He would make his NHL debut with the Coyotes during the 2020-21 season.

While Prosvetov was able to go from the OHL to the AHL very quickly, the jump from the AHL to the NHL has proven more difficult. He had a lot of internal competition during his time in Arizona, which only got more intense when the Coyotes claimed Ingram.

Prosvetov now has a chance to show that he is ready for full-time NHL duty with the Avalanche. It is a less ideal situation for the Tucson Roadrunners, who will go into the season without their starting netminder.
