Over the weekend, the Arizona Coyotes locked up two of their key younger players. Goaltender Ivan Prosvetov signed a one-year, two-way contract for $775,000 ($225,000) in the minors and forward Matias Maccelli to a three-year deal averaging $3.425 million.
Matias Maccelli contract terms:
3 Yrs./$3.425 AAV2023/24: $3.0
2024/25: $3.025
2025/26: $4.250— Craig Morgan (@CraigSMorgan) July 16, 2023
The Coyotes drafted Prosvetov 114th overall at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and after just a year in the OHL he made the jump to professional hockey, splitting the 2019-20 season between the Tucson Roadrunners and Rapid City Rush. He split last season between the Coyotes and Roadrunners, finishing with seven games in the Coyotes and a 3.98 goals-against average and a .880 save percentage in the NHL and a 3.06 goals-against average and .900 save percentage in 35 AHL games.
Maccelli was drafted 98th overall by the Coyotes in 2019, and he made his North American professional debut during the 2021-22 season. He split the year between the Roadrunners and the Coyotes, and while he only had a goal and five assists in 23 NHL games, his 57 points in 47 AHL games gave fans hope.
Last season, Maccelli made the Coyotes’ roster out of training camp and quickly became one of the team’s bright spots. Maccelli provided consistent offense and started to get Calder Trophy buzz up until he got hurt and missed a decent stretch of games.
Maccelli came back and finished the season strong with 11 goals and 38 assists in 64 games. His 49-point season impressed enough Calder voters to see him finish fourth in the votes, just missing out on being a finalist.

Maccelli should get a chance to replicate his success next season. He could see time with Dylan Guenther, Jason Zucker, or his old partner Nick Bjugstad which should give him a few options to find success.
