The 2021/22 season is fast approaching, so here at Five For Howling, we’re taking a look at this year’s Arizona Coyotes 25 best players under the age of 25.

The Arizona Coyotes had three second-round picks at the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, and all three made the Coyotes top 25 under 25 this season, in pretty close proximity. So yesterday, we looked at Ilya Fedotov, and today we look at forward Josh Doan.

20/21 League: USHL (Chicago Steel)

Games played: 53

Goals: 31

Assists: 39

Highest rating: 14

Lowest rating: 21

Last year’s rankings: Not ranked

Josh Doan is the son of former Arizona Coyotes Shane Doan, but it would be a mistake to assume he was drafted just because of his last name. The younger Doan was passed over the first year he was eligible, but a solid season in the USHL showed that he is willing to put in the needed work to become a professional athlete.

Doan finished third on his team in goals scored, second in assists, and third in points last season with the Chicago Steel. The team would win the USHL Clark Cup with Doan, and Doan would be named to the USHL Second All-Star Team.

The Scottsdale-native is poised to remain in Arizona next season, as he has committed to play for the NCAA Arizona State University Sun Devils. The Sun Devils are a relatively recent NCAA program, but they have developed into a solid program and should provide plenty of opportunity for the young forward to grow.

Doan has already made an impression at this year’s development camp. He didn’t play in yesterday’s scrimmage, but he was putting in the effort and getting noticed.

Doan’s next step will be to spend some time with his NCAA team and continue developing and growing. Luckily, he will be close to the franchise that drafted him, which should afford him plenty of opportunities to get pointers and practice advice as the season goes along. And worst-case scenario, I’m sure his dad should be able to give him plenty of tips over dinner.
