Game Preview

The Arizona Coyotes played the Vegas Golden Knights in back-to-back games and got three points. They beat them 3-0 on Friday, and on Saturday, they crawled back from a 2-0 deficit to force the game into overtime.

It was an impressive accomplishment, and no matter what happens, the team should be proud of how they played against a good team. Especially, since the Coyotes don’t have too much to play for at the moment.

The Coyotes aren’t yet mathematically eliminated, but they aren’t far off. Arizona has 50 points and four games remaining, compared to the St. Louis Blues, who have 53 points, and seven games remaining.

But there is still plenty of reason to leave it all on the ice. Some are playing for contracts, others are playing for ice time, and others are just because that’s how they are built. And in games like tonight’s, the rivalry should provide all the needed motivation.

These two teams met over a week ago in Los Angeles, a game that the Coyotes won 4-0. Since then, the Kings have struggled, losing two of four games against the Anaheim Ducks.

The four games played out differently, with no team consistently scoring first. The Kings are another team with a struggling power play, and they had only one power play goal in the four games against the Ducks.

But the Kings do also have a pretty stellar penalty kill. They are third in the league, killing 84.8% of penalties this season. Los Angeles also had a short-handed goal, their third of the season.

Players to Watch

Arizona: Jakob Chychrun - Chychrun had an assist against Vegas and had a goal the last time the Coyotes played the Kings.

Los Angeles: Adrian Kempe - Kempe had one goal and three assists in the four games against the Ducks. He is second on the team in goals scored (14), and fourth in points (28).

Injuries

Arizona: John Hayden (Covid protocol), Antti Raanta (upper body), Conor Garland (knee), Tyler Pitlick (lower body), Jordan Gross (lower body)

Los Angeles: Blake Lizotte (questionable, upper body), Matt Luff (questionable, undisclosed)
