Game Recap

The Arizona Coyotes losing streak continues after dropping their tenth game of the season tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Coyotes had their best start to a game of the 2021-22 season, and they still ended up losing 3-0.

Arizona started the game with energy and spent a fair amount of time in the offensive zone. The Coyotes are notoriously poor at the start, including being limited to a single shot on goal through 20. Tonight’s game was nothing like that. They had no problems gaining the zone or generating offensive pressure. They just couldn’t score.

But as we have seen a few times this season, goaltender Karel Vejmelka can keep the team in the game. Vejmelka stood on his head throughout the entire game, and the score would remain tied 0-0.

The Flyers appeared to take a lead midway through the first, but a review of the play showed that Vejmelka had frozen the puck, but it had been kicked out from under his glove. The Flyers didn’t get the goal, but the momentum shift had started.

The Flyers would finally break the tie in the third, with Sean Couturier getting the game-winner just under seven minutes into the period. The Coyotes had gotten a little sloppy in the third, and a complete breakdown gave Couturier a perfect opportunity and a 1-0 lead.

Arizona would hamper their rebound efforts with a penalty less than two minutes after the goal, and they could not find the equalizer.

The Coyotes would have a couple of good looks as they finished off the third but failed to find the back of the net. Scott Laughton and Claude Giroux would both score in the final three minutes, giving the Flyers the 3-0 lead.

Arizona had a few good looks, but they were unable to solve Flyers’ goaltender Carter Hutton. The team also did not get a power play for the entire game,
