Yesterday, Arizona Coyotes' captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson got tangled up with the San Jose Sharks' Evander Kane and went hard into the glass and boards. Kane was given a penalty on the play, and that seemed to be the end of it.
But, unfortunately, things were worse than that. Craig Morgan tweeted out that OEL is going to miss "significant time."
Bad news from Coyotes camp: Sounds like captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson is going to miss significant time after last night's hit from San Jose's Evander Kane. https://t.co/LqmaOtkwzT— Craig Morgan (@CraigSMorgan) January 17, 2021
It's such a shame because the Coyotes and Oliver Ekman-Larsson both started off so well. Ekman-Larsson had three assists in the game against the Scottsdale Sharks, and the Coyotes had three out of a possible four points.
With Oliver Ekman-Larsson missing time, we likely will be seeing a lot more of the Coyotes' young defenseman.
Kyle Capobianco made the opening night roster and seems like a good choice for the added ice time and responsibility. But we may also see Victor Söderström who was assigned to the Coyotes' taxi squad.
The Coyotes were already set to have a tough schedule with their next four games being against the Vegas Golden Knights.
