Today, we officially announce Shane Doan as Chief Hockey Development Officer.
Welcome home, Captain! https://t.co/q5u2xymaRF
Shane Doan's departure from the Arizona Coyotes rubbed fans the wrong way at the time. The team's longest-serving captain, a legend in the Valley, and the only player who was with the team when they were still the Winnipeg Jets, was not going to be re-signed and per reports at the team would be naming Oliver Ekman-Larsson as captain.
Doan was understandably upset by the decision and a rift between the team and the organization appeared to develop. Fans were also upset, and the treatment of Shane Doan was a big sticking point when it came to the organization and occasionally General Manager John Chayka specifically for handling the situation perfectly.
This didn't prevent the team from retiring Doan's number, an excellent ceremony for Doan and the fans. But fans wondered if the team was going to do more.
Today, Doan has returned to the organization that drafted him. Dan will be serving as the team's chief hockey development officer.
After retiring from playing Doan went to work at the NHL in the hockey operations department
