This season’s postseason is extremely unique for a variety of reasons that should come as no surprise. Two of the biggest reasons are the incorporation of the five-game play-in round and the round-robin method to determine the seeding for the first round.

The Arizona Coyotes won their play-in series against the Nashville Predators in four games, and today we learn their opponents.

In the coming days, the Coyotes will be facing off against the Colorado Avalanche. The dates and times of the game have yet to be announced.

The Avalanche lost to the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in overtime in a close game that featured some crazy goals scored, a penalty shot, and Colorado tying the game with 62 seconds left in the game.

The Coyotes have matched up decently against the Avalanche during the regular season. Their record was 1-0-1 with their final game being canceled along with the rest of the regular season.

Arizona last met Colorado in the 1999-00 playoffs. The Coyotes won just one game during that best-of-seven matchup.

Arizona wasn’t an overly dominant team in their series against the Predators, but with the win, they have shown that they can’t be taken lightly. Things only get harder from here though and the Coyotes are going to need to bring their A-game.

We haven’t seen the Coyotes make the playoffs since their trip to the Western Conference Finals during the 2011-12 season. That was also the first time the team has made it out of the first round.
