Yesterday, the nominees for the 2019-20 King Clancy Memorial Trophy was announced. The award is presented every year “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”

Senior NHL executives select nominees from each team and the following criteria are used when picking the finalists and the eventual winner.
- Clear and measurable positive impact on the community
- Investment of time and resources
- Commitment to a particular cause or community
- Commitment to the League’s community initiatives
- Creativity of programming
- Use of influence; engagement of others
The Coyotes nominee this year is defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson. OEL is not only the team captain but he is involved in numerous charitable foundations, Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson has been nominated for the award multiple times in the past, and last season he was named one of the finalists. He has not yet won the award which comes with a donation $25,000 donation to the charity of the winner’s choice. Runners-up receive a $5,000 donation to the charity of their choice.
