Today the Arizona Coyotes made a huge announcement, they have launched Spanish-language Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts dubbed Los Yotes.

In the official press release, Coyotes President and CEO Ahron Cohen said “We are thrilled to introduce our Spanish-language Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts and look forward to providing Hispanic hockey fans with unique and engaging content on this platform. This is just the first step in our efforts to grow the game and reach the Latino market.”

With the launch of these accounts, the Coyotes hope to tap into the Spanish speaking Arizona population. The accounts will feature photo, video, and written Spanish language content.

The move is a perfect fit for the Coyotes new owner, the first Hispanic majority owner in the NHL Alex Meruelo. Meruelo is the son of Cuban immigrants who started La Pizza Loca and has been involved with a number of Spanish language television and radio stations.

Arizona will also host a “Noche de los Yotes” night for Hispanic Heritage Month on October 17th in a matchup against the Nashville Predators. Like most theme nights the game will feature special warm-up jerseys, featuring “Los Yotes” with the jerseys being auditioned for charity.
