The Athletic is one of the best places to get hockey news and analysis. As an example yesterday, Dom Luszczyszyn released the results of a survey of readers asking their confidence in both their team’s front office and the front offices of teams around the league.

In a bit of a surprise move the Arizona Coyotes ranked very highly in the survey. Arizona finished twelfth overall, with the average public opinion at 3.2 out of 5 and the average fan opinion at 4.3 out of 5.

It makes sense that Coyotes fans are excited. The team has new ownership in Alex Meruelo and the offseason acquisition of Phil Kessel gives Arizona a legit goal scorer. Despite not making the playoffs since 2012, the Coyotes were extremely close last season and thanks to a successful offseason the playoffs seems like a realistic goal for the upcoming season.

The Coyotes did score lower in two areas. Fans ranked both Draft/Development and Free Agency at 3.9. This makes sense given that Arizona has traded three recent first-round picks, Max Domi, P. O. Joseph, and Dylan Strome, in the past two years and they haven’t had any big free agent signings in years.

While Coyotes fans are certainly excited about this season if things go wrong their opinion is likely to sour extremely quickly. But Arizona fans have more reasons to be excited now then they have in a long time. Now its time for the team to prove that the fan base’s confidence isn’t misplaced.

What do you think? Are you excited for the Coyotes next season? How much confidence do you have in the front office?
