Game Preview

With the season quickly coming to a close and the race for the playoffs still extremely tight the Arizona Coyotes are going to need every point they can get. On Saturday the Coyotes took the Edmonton Oilers to overtime, getting one point and keeping a buffer between them and the Minnesota Wild. Unfortunately, last night the Wild would take the New York Islanders to overtime, cutting that buffer to just one point, although the Coyotes still have a game in hand. Only time will tell if the one point they left on the table will make a difference.

As of late the Coyotes have found success at home. This season though they have just as successful on the road with a 18-15-2 record away compared to their 18-15-4 at home. The next four games will be on the road, and it will be a tough one. Two of the games, including tonight’s, will be against teams bound for the playoffs.

Its tough to overstate how good the Tampa Bay Lightning are this season. Every season there is a team that gets talked about as a clear Stanley Cup favorite, but Tampa Bay is a little different. Tampa Bay gets compared to some of the best teams in modern history and they may finish with the most wins in the regular season.

Luckily the Coyotes only need to pay the Lightning twice a year. The first time these two met was back in the first month of the season, when the Coyotes were in the middle of another slow start. After getting shut out for three of their first four games the Coyotes started collecting wins when they beat the Lightning 7-1. The game would feature four Coyotes’ players notching their first goal of the season, including Michael Grabner getting his first two goals short handed.

Games to Watch

The Vegas Golden Knights will be facing off against the San Jose Sharks tonight, Vegas is currently five points ahead of the Coyotes.

Players to Watch

Arizona: Alex Galchenyuk - After being quiet for the past few games Galchenyuk scored twice, and he now leads the team in goals.

Tampa Bay: Alex Killorn - While you should probably watch everyone on Tampa Bay, Killorn comes into tonight’s game having registered a hat trick against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals. He has sixteen goals on the season.

Injuries

Arizona: Derek Stepan (lower body), Kyle Capobianco (lower body), Nick Schmaltz (lower body), Antti Raanta (lower body)

Tampa Bay: Dan Girardi (questionable, lower body), Anton Stralman (questionable, lower body)
