Earlier today it was announced that the Arizona Coyotes had put forward Giovanni Fiore on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.
The move was a bit of a surprise as the Arizona Coyotes had acquired Fiore from the Anaheim Ducks less than a year ago.
On December 28, 2018, the Coyotes acquired Giovanni Fiore from the Ducks for defenseman Trevor Murphy. Fiore would play 30 games with the Tucson Roadrunners last season, recording 4 goals and 3 assists in that time.
Fiore would start the season with the Coyotes’ ECHL affiliate the Rapid City Rush. He seemed off to a good start, with 12 goals and 16 assists in 24 games and he was named the ECHL Player of the Week this past week.
It’s tough to say how Fiore fit into the Coyotes’ system. He was originally brought in for the Tucson Roadrunners, but starting the season with the Rush is a good sign he wasn’t the right fit this season. We also don’t know the full details of why this happened now.
