In a season that has seen many Arizona Coyotes head to the IR, another player will be joining them as Brad Richardson has been sent to the IR. Craig Morgan had it at about 11:00 am today.
Per the Coyotes, center Brad Richardson suffered an upper-body injury last night vs. Vancouver and will be placed on IR. He is listed as week-to-week. Next!?— Craig Morgan (@craigsmorgan) January 11, 2019
This is compounded with the recent news of Nick Schmaltz’s lower body injury that will cause him to miss the whole season. Jason Demers was one of the first Coyotes to head to the IR and Jakob Chychrun was the one to somewhat make it off of the IR.
Some may have questioned the re-signing of Brad Richardson prior to the start of the season, however his contributions will be missed as he was the team leader in face off percentage (54.7%).
The best tweet I saw today was from Arizona Sports very own Luke Lapinski:
It’s like the Coyotes are trading players for wins.— Luke Lapinski (@LukeLapinski) January 11, 2019
This season has been very frustrating. Potential was the word that was floated around at the beginning of the year, however a season that has been spent being so close to the basement of the NHL. With the IR being filled with the likes of Antti Raanta, Jason Demers, Christian Dvorak, Michael Grabner, Nick Schmaltz and now Brad Richardson (for a couple of weeks)....this season is more about getting to the finish-line in one piece.
