The Coyotes started wearing the Kachina design when they first moved to Arizona in 1996 and wore them up until the 2003-04 season.
The new jersey will be a new lightweight design for the home opener against the Anaheim Ducks, a November 23 “Black Friday” game against the Colorado Avalanche, and 13 “Kachina Saturday” home games.
The Coyotes originally reintroduced the Kachina jersey for the March 5, 2015 Throwback Night and have worn them for games in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 season. The throwback jersey was originally an unofficial replacement for the Running Coyote third jersey that the Coyotes wore from 2008-14.
The Kachina design is generally well liked by Coyotes fans who appreciate the retro throwback. Craig Morgan noted in his article on the third jersey that in August of 2016 in a poll conducted by 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station fans voted the Kachina jersey the best jersey in Valley sports history.
Despite not living in Arizona in the 1990s and not following hockey while the jersey was being worn I’ve personally always been a fan of the Kachina jersey. Its a unique design unlike any other in the league. Granted you need look no further then my collection of ska vinyl to know that I’m a person who appreciates things from the '90s.
