The Coyotes, as well as the rest of the league, have released their Protection List for the 2017 Expansion Draft.

The Arizona Coyotes Protection List:

Nick Cousins (F)

Anthony Duclair (F)

Jordan Martinook (F)

Tobias Rieder (F)

Oliver Ekman-Larsson (D)

Alex Goligoski (D)

Connor Murphy (D)

Luke Schenn (D)

Chad Johnson (G)

Not at all surprising that the Coyotes went the 8 skater route or 4 forwards, 4 defensemen, 1 goalie format.

The least shocking names on the list of protected players are Ekman-Larsson and Goligoski (who has a no-move clause). The other defenseman protected, Schenn and Murphy, are core staples so it was highly likely that Chayka would protect them as well.

On forward, the Coyotes have protected Martinook, Rieder, Duclair, and Cousins. Arizona confirmed after the trade with the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday that they would protect Cousins, so no surprises there either.

With the trade on Saturday with the Flames, Johnson was protected and Louis Domingue has been exposed.

Available Players:

Alex Burmistov (F)

Shane Doan (F)

Tyler Gaudet (F)

Peter Holland (F)

Josh Jooris (F)

Jamie McGinn (F)

Jeremy Morin (F)

Mitchell Moroz (F)

Chris Mueller (F)

Teemu Pulkkinen (F)

Brad Richardson (F)

Garret Ross (F)

Braden Troock (F)

Radim Vrbata (F)

Joe Whitney (F)

Kevin Connauton (D)

Jamie McBain (D)

Zbynek Michalek (D)

Jarred Tinordi (D)

Louis Domingue (G)

The list of available players above that Arizona did not protect also includes RFAs and UFAs from the Coyotes and the minors.

REMINDER: All players with two or fewer years of NHL experience are exempt. Breathe everyone, Max Domi and all of the rest of our bright, young stars are safe. (Unless there’s a trade of some sort...)

What was your biggest surprise? The format 7-3-1 or 4-4-1-? The players left exposed? Who do you think Vegas will be taking from the Coyotes now?
