Sources are reporting that Kevin Ekman-Larsson, Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s young brother, has signed a deal with the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL.

From Swedish reporter Johan Svensson, he also confirmed that Ekman-Larsson has signed and it will be announced shortly. It also mentions that he may spend time in the ECHL as well.

What does this mean?

There could be some movement coming within the Coyotes organization or the Roadrunners with the signing of Kevin Ekman-Larsson. He has been a quiet, defensive force on his Allsvenskan team, Tingsryd AIF. Having only watched a handful of TAIF games, he is great on big ice.

Kevin is not an offensive defenseman like his brother, Oliver. He can stack up the assists but is usually more of a stay at home guy. He’s a left shot, which the Coyotes are log jammed with currently. He is also on the smaller side, 5’11”, and around 170 pounds. Coming to North America at the age of 22 will help him get used to the smaller ice, even if he has to spend some time in Rapid City to do it.

Some think this is a move to keep Oliver happy so he signs long term next season. That may be the case, or it could be a cause of wanting a chance with a bigger league for Kevin. Either way, we should be excited about the Ekman-Larsson brothers being united within the same franchise.
