I have been a part of Five For Howling for just over a year and a half, and I am very happy and excited to be taking over as Managing Editor of the site. I know I have big shoes to fill with Brendan leaving, but I know we can make this transition go smoothly.
Brendan has been nothing but a friend and amazing editor in my time here. We were very lucky to have such a great, passionate guy taking care the site for as long as he has.
Over the next few months you will notice some changes and they will be for the better.
You should have already seen our first flash update. This will be a feature that will come out daily during the season and once a week during the off-season. This will cover things that are important, but not big enough for its own story.
We are going to have content for you over the summer and revamp our coverage game. We will be looking for contributors soon so keep an eye out. I want this space to be open to fans of all backgrounds and to have discussions about inclusion, representation and other important topics that are involving hockey.
Again, this will be a space where anyone can talk about the Coyotes and hockey. Hockey culture has started to shift from being for everyone, back to just for a certain crow. Coyotes fans are not your traditional fan set, and I want to showcase that in our writing.
I want this to be the one stop shop for Coyotes news and talk, besides the Official Coyotes site. Join the fun, follow us on Twitter and on Facebook. Write some fan posts and join us in the comment sections.
Hockey has become my happy place over the last few years. The sound of skates against the ice calms my nerves. I am so lucky to live in a place where I can see live hockey at least 41 games a year if I chose.
I want to thank a few people for helping me become a better writer. Firstly, Brendan for taking a chance on me and letting me write what I felt was important. He also pushed me to be a better writer and I cannot express how much that means to me.
Major thanks to Cat Silverman, who told me to apply for FFH in the first place and pushes me to be better in my coverage. Jen Neale, for telling me to keep writing, even when you don’t want to and for letting me write about the weird things that have happened to the Coyotes.
Thanks to Steve Dangle and Adam Wylde for coming onto the Den Talk Podcast, when we just started and becoming friends in the process. They push me to be better with the podcast, which will be coming back in the off-season, and to work hard to get to where I want to be.
Thank you to Marc Dumont, Travis Hughes, Mary Clarke, Achariya, and Hannah Bevis for being stable, calm forces when things went weird this season. Shout out to everyone at SB Nation NHL and The Ice Garden for being there, we’ve all been through a lot this season together. I wouldn’t have been able to do a lot of things I have this year without you.
I am excited to step into this role and make Five For Howling an even better place.
