The Coyotes move up a spot after beating Vancouver, but what did it do to their lotto chances?

It’s everyone’s favorite time of year, when we wonder how the Edmonton Oilers are going to end up with a top five pick aga-.

Oh? What’s that? They’re in the playoffs? Great!

All joking aside, it’s time to see where the Coyotes land statistically before the draft lotto is drawn on April 29th, 2017 at 4:30 PST/7:30 EST on NBC.

With the Coyotes finishing 28th, they had the same odds as the Vegas Golden Knights for the first overall pick, which is 10.30%.

You can play with a simulation of the lotto here. Don’t use it too much or you may drive yourself out of being a hockey fan.

The odds as released by the NHL are as follows. The allocation of odds for the 1st Lottery Draw of the 2017 NHL DraftLottery is as follows:

Non-Playoff Team (Fewest Pts. to Most) Odds

Colorado Avalanche 18.0%

Vancouver Canucks 12.1%

Vegas Golden Knights * 10.3%

Arizona Coyotes 10.3%

New Jersey Devils 8.5%

Buffalo Sabres 7.6%

Detroit Red Wings 6.7%

Dallas Stars 5.8%

Florida Panthers 5.4%

Los Angeles Kings 4.5%

Carolina Hurricanes 3.2%

Winnipeg Jets 2.7%

Philadelphia Flyers 2.2%

Tampa Bay Lightning 1.8%

New York Islanders 0.9%

* Vegas assigned same lottery odds as the team finishing the regular season in 28th place

The Coyotes do have a good chance at landing one of the top three picks, but they also could be pushed as low as seventh, where they drafted last season. With a draft class that is considered weaker than last season, it could hurt the Coyotes more than help. We won’t know until the draw of the lotto balls on April 29th.
