The Coyotes finally get their first home ice win.

NHL: Carolina Hurricanes at Arizona Coyotes Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Coyotes finally have their first win on home ice after a goalie duel in the desert.

Tonight was a special night in Arizona. Hockey Fights Cancer Nights are always emotional and everyone plays their best. Tonight was no different.

Scoring Summary

First Period

Back and forth but no scoring. Coyotes got better towards the end of the period.

Second Period

1-0 Arizona (Keller 10): The Coyotes enter the zone in midst of a line change. Clayton Keller turnstiles Justin Faulk, causing him to lose the puck. Brad Richardson steals it and sends a nice pass to Clayton Keller who buries it into a basically empty net past Scott Darling.

Third Period

1-1 Tie (Staal 4): On a bad pinch from Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Jason Demers, no one has Jordan Staal as he puts the puck past Antti Raanta at 17:35 of the third.

Overtime

No one scores but Antti Raanta decides to take a trip to Narnia and almost wound up injured again when Derek Ryan ran into him when he went on his little vacation.

If you missed it...

Shootout

Clayton Keller performs magic and scores on Darling.

OEL misses, because of curse he does.

Derek Stepan scores and the Coyotes Win at Home.

That’s what matters. Just Win.

Three Answers

How many odd-man rushes will the Coyotes allow?

Surprisingly, not as many as during the Buffalo game. They looked more together than they have the past few games. Still have room for improvement.

Will the special teams improve?

Well, the penalty kill did their job well. The power play still looks disjointed, nearly allowing a short handed chance right at the start of their first power play.

Can the team put together a full 60 minute game?

They played 57 minutes tonight. Almost there.

Players of the Game

Arizona- Antti Raanta: He kept Arizona in the game and stole the two points from Carolina in the shootout.

Carolina- Jeff Skinner: Skinner was everywhere tonight but the score sheet. He was one of Carolina’s stronger players.

Three Stars

Third Star: Derek Stepan (Shootout Goal Winner)

Second Star: Antti Raanta (36 saves against Sv% .973)

First Star: Clayton Keller (1 goal and shootout goal)
