The Arizona Coyotes have been low on right-handed defensemen in their pipeline for a while, but when they drafted Dysin Mayo in 2014, they started to fix that problem. Coming in at #14 is this right-handed defenseman who could be seeing NHL time in the near future.
#14 - Dysin Mayo - Right-Handed Defenseman - Edmonton Oil Kings - 133rd overall pick, 2014 NHL Draft
Highest Rank: 11
Lowest Rank: 16
Dysin Mayo has always showed promise during the development camps with the Coyotes. He was one of the youngest players drafted in the 2014 draft as he has a late August birthday. He is a smooth skating defenseman who has a knack of finding the open player.
He also is known for protecting his teammates and tends to rack up the penalty minutes. While that is an aspect of the game that is slowly leaving, hopefully he will mellow with age and use that energy to be a better defenseman.
He has the potential to be a solid second pairing defenseman once he gains a bit more weight and matures. Being a right-handed, right side defenseman is rare like a unicorn. He will almost certainly be playing with the Tucson Roadrunners this season, which will help him mold his game.v
