It was officially announced that Jakob Chychrun has signed a three year, entry level contract with the Arizona Coyotes.  Chychrun was the Coyotes 16th pick at the 2016 Entry Level Draft.  The Coyotes acquired the 16th pick from the Detroit Red Wings along with the contract for Pavel Datysuk in exchange for the 20th pick, the 53rd pick, and Joe Vitale.

Chychrun had 11 goals and 38 assists in his last season with the OHL Sarnia Sting and in the past was awarded Jack Ferguson Award for the top draft pick in the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Draft.  The 6' 2" 205 pound defenseman lead the Sting in points and was fourth among OHL defenseman.

The 18 year old defenseman was the first of four defensemen that the Coyotes drafted in the 2016 Draft in attempt to revitalize the Coyotes defensive prospect pool.  With 8 defensemen currently signed by the Coyotes for next season Chychrun will likely not be making the team next season but will hopefully see NHL ice soon.

The Coyotes other first round pick of the 2016 Draft Clayton Keller is rumored to be playing in the NCAA next season and thus will be unable to sign an Entry Level Contract.
