One of the larger cuts this training camp for the Arizona Coyotes has come and gone, with eleven players receiving the ax Sunday morning.

Of the eleven reductions, the most notable names include Christian Dvorak and Brendan Perlini, who have both been returned to their respective OHL teams. Though Dvorak's path to the Coyotes was tougher due to the abundance of centers on the roster, Perlini was definitely a candidate for one of the open spots on the wing.

So what changed? For starters, Dave Tippett sounded less than enthused about how Perlini had been performing in camp this season:

"In the only other game, the Bakersfield game, (he was missing) lots of details that a young player, you’d expect doesn’t have, but without the couple things of flash."

The coaching staff evidently did not think that Perlini was ready for the NHL, so he goes back to Niagara. As for Dvorak, the presence of Antoine Vermette and Martin Hanzal, coupled with Dylan Strome's arrival at training camp, made it hard to keep him on the roster with anything but a stand-out performance.

Other interesting demotions include Niklas Treutle and Marek Langhamer to AHL Springfield. Assuming all goes according to expectations, they'll be joined by Louis Domingue. That leaves those three fighting along with Tyler Beskorowany for playing time in the AHL, or further demotion to the ECHL in Rapid City.

Also interesting to note are the players who are left. Henrik Sameulsson, Jordan Martinook, Philip Samuelsson, and the aforementioned Strome are all among the 31 players still standing. Martinook has made the most headway with his head coach, while Henrik Samuelsson's longevity at camp is only good news after spending the summer in the team's doghouse.

Arizona has three preseason games left to get their roster to 23. While one of those will certainly be a goaltender (either Domingue or Anders Lindback), the remaining seven cuts will be a challenge.
