2014 NHL Draft: Day 2 complete coverage

Welcome to day two of the 2014 NHL Draft. This page will update throughout the day with every Arizona Coyotes selection.

Round 2 - 43rd overall (Ryan MacInnis)

The Coyotes sure do like to take the sons of former NHL players. They did so in each of the previous two drafts as well as in the first round of this draft, but they added to it with the selection of Ryan MacInnis 43rd overall.

Son of All-Star defenseman Al MacInnis, Ryan is a strong two-way center that should fit into Dave Tippett's system quite well. His defensive skills and hockey IQ may be enough to earn him a role as an NHL bottom-six, shut down centerman, but his offensive upside is limited.

At 6' 4" and 185 pounds, MacInnis is tall, but lanky and needs to add to his frame in order to reach his full potential.

The 18-year-old scored 16 goals and 37 points in 66 games with the Kitchener Rangers last season.

Round 2 - 58th overall (Christian Dvorak)

With the pick acquired from Chicago in the David Rundblad trade, the Coyotes selected left wing Christian Dvorak from the London Knights.

Teammate of 2013 first round pick Max Domi, Dvorak is an elite skater with goal scoring promise. At 6' 0" and 178 pounds, he is not too undersized but could stand to add a bit more muscle.

The 18-year-old is unproven even at the major junior level as he played just 33 OHL games last season due to a ACL injury. He recovered in time to play in the Memorial Cup and participate in the NHL Draft Combine.

Dvorak is a high upside pick with bust potential. He showed goal scoring ability in midget hockey, but his time in the OHL is too short to make a solid assessment. He will head back to London next season.

Round 3 - 87th overall (Anton Karlsson)

Arizona moved down in the third round and selected winger Anton Karlsson from Sweden. He is the brother of Erik Karlsson, the one in Carolina not Ottawa.

The 17-year-old is a big, speedy left wing, standing a 6' 2" and nearly 200 pounds. He is an effective forechecker and playmaker as part of a two-way, physical game he enjoys.

"I am a very physical player and I love to take the positive energy to my team . . .I like my role in the game," he told The Hockey News.

Karlsson was ranked 11th on NHL Central Scouting's final European skaters list, but at such a young age, the NHL is a ways away.

Round 4 - 117th overall (Michael Bunting)

The forward trend continued as the Coyotes used their fourth consecutive pick on a forward when they selected left wing Michael Bunting from the Soo Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Bunting possesses a strong defensive game, work ethic and willingness to block shots. He is a smart player in the process of developing a strong shot and projects as a possible 20-goal scorer in the NHL.

Like second round pick Dvorak, Bunting suffered a knee injury that cost him some OHL games last season. The 18-year-old will finish out his major junior eligibility then proceed to the AHL if signed.

The Coyotes picked up this pick when they traded with Montreal and moved down in round three.

Round 5 - 133rd overall (Dysin Mayo)

Arizona finally went with a defenseman, selecting Dysin Mayo from the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Mayo is a right-handed defenseman, an area of need for the Coyotes, whose strong playoff run propelled him into mid-round consideration. After scoring 35 points in 63 regular season games, Mayo scored 15 points in 21 playoff games.

The 17-year-old is a solid two-way defenseman that is agile, a smooth skater and has a solid poke check. He was teammates with fellow Coyotes prospect Henrik Samuelsson the past two seasons.

Round 6 - 163rd overall (David Westlund)

The Coyotes went back-to-back defensemen, taking Sweden's David Westlund.

The 19-year-old, 6' 3", 207-pound left-handed defenseman played a bit in a Swedish junior league as well as the SHL, where he scored one point and played 21 games among men.

Round 7 - 191st overall (Jared Fiegl)

Using the pick acquired in the Steve Sullivan trade to New Jersey at the 2013 trade deadline, the Coyotes drafted forward Jared Fiegl from the USNTDP.

Fiegl is a 18-year-old LW/C committed to Cornell University. The Colorado native is a 6' 1", 205-pound left handed shot. He scored six points in 45 games with the US development team last season.

Round 7 - 193rd overall (Edgars Kulda)

With its final pick, Arizona selected another Edmonton Oil King in LW Edgars Kulda.

Kulda, 19, scored 30 goals and 60 points last season with Edmonton and followed it up with 10 goals and 22 points in 21 WHL playoff games as well as four goals and seven points in five Memorial Cup games. His performance won him the Stafford Smythe Trophy as tournament MVP.

The Latvian forward was passed over in last year's draft but blossomed offensively last season. Kulda is a hard worker who may turn out to be a steal this late in the draft.
