Dog Caller - Opening round of the playoffs for the Arizona Sundogs

The Arizona Sundogs began the 2013-2014 CHL Playoffs on the road, facing the Missouri Mavericks on Friday and Sunday.

Friday, the Mavericks would come out strong, scoring three goals in the first before the Sundogs would get on the board. Late in the opening frame, Arizona forward Brandon Coccimiglio would light the lamp, assisted by Mike Forney and Michael Trebish.

Missouri would score the only two goals of the second period.

Early in the third, Sundogs forward David Rutherford would find the back of the net, assisted by Brandon Coccimiglio. Two minutes later, with his team on the power play, Arizona forward Shawn Limpright would score, assisted by Kevin Baker and Mark Isherwood.

The comeback would fall short however and the Mavericks would get the 5-3 win. The Sundogs totaled 32 shots on goal and goalie Andrew Engelage stopped 23 of the 28 shots on goal.

The teams met again Sunday and neither team would score in the opening period.

Less than two minutes into the second, Arizona forward Paul McIlveen would get his team on the board, assisted by Alex Tuckerman. Missouri would tie the game late in the second.

Early in the third, Sundogs forward Kevin Baker would give his team the lead again, assisted by Brandon Coccimiglio. The Mavericks would level the score again a few minutes later. With just over five minutes left in the game, Arizona forward Shawn Limpright would reclaim his team's lead, assisted by Matt McCready and Johan Ryd. Twenty-eight seconds later, Paul McIlveen would get his second of the night, assisted by Bryan Cameron and Mike Forney.

Missouri would score one more before the final buzzer, but the Sundogs would get the 4-3 victory. Arizona had 42 shots on goal and goalie Andrew Engelage stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced.
