The Manchester Phoenix Win The EPL Ice Hockey Playoff Title!

Five for Howling's adopted European club took home the hardware in Coventry on Sunday.

Back in October, in the middle of the latest NHL lockout, the gang here at Five for Howling decided we still wanted to follow a hockey team. We thought it would be interesting to follow a European club since most of us had little detailed knowledge of squads across the Pond. We asked for suggestions via Twitter and then had our readers vote on which team they wanted us to follow. The Manchester Phoenix won in a narrow victory over SKA St. Petersburg.

Little did we know that the team our reader's chose would have a roller coaster of a season. The Phoenix won 7 of the first 10 games after we started following them. They then lost four in a row. The rest of the season followed the up and down pattern. The team lost their starting goalie Stephen Fone due to injury and lost a number of other players due to injury and in player-coach Tony Hand's case, international competition. However, they battled through and Fone returned from injury in time for the playoffs. Manchester's season culminated today with a 5-2 victory over the Guildford Flames for the EPL Playoff Title. Congratulations to player-coach Tony Hand and his entire squad on the victory!!!
