The Phoenix Coyotes made a mini roster shake up on Sunday morning, assigning forwards Gilbert Brule and Jordan Szwarz to the AHL.

Szwarz, 22, appeared in 20 games with the Coyotes, recording two goals. He played exactly two months in the NHL after making his debut on Oct. 29.

Brule, 26, appeared in three NHL games without recording a point. After not making the team out of training camp, Brule signed with the Coyotes' AHL affiliate Portland Pirates. Amid rumors the Edmonton native would jump to the KHL, the Coyotes signed him to a one-year deal in late November.

UPDATE: Brule has been suspended after refusing to go to the Pirates.

Phoenix's active roster sits at 21, two below the maximum. Shane Doan and Rostislav Klesla are the only two Coyotes players currently on injured reserve.
