In case you missed it, Mike Smith managed to score his first career goal right as time expired in the Phoenix Coyotes' 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. While we revel in the glory that is a goalie goal, let's take a look at some notable NHLers who are still looking to pot their first this season.
The Hall of Shame
Giroux has been an elite player in the NHL for quite some time now, and after signing an eight year, $66.2M contract extension this offseason, much is expected of him. Maybe Smitty can show him some stick-handling techniques.
He's having a pretty good year production-wise as far as defensemen go, but as a Phoenix Coyotes blog we are contractually obligated to make fun of Winnipeg in some fashion as often as possible.
Mike Richards has not lit the lamp so far this season, which means that now that we've done this he will score a dozen against Phoenix this year.
I'm pretty sure Yakupov is looking for his first point of the season, but he's so enigmatic I can't tell for sure.
Rick Nash is injured and has yet to score a goal, and so in solidarity the New York Rangers have decided to not score any either.
The Caps parted ways with 2012 1st round pick Filip Forsberg to get this guy. Good to see that move is working out.
Jarome Iginla has been trying so hard to put himself in the best position possible to contribute but simply couldn't finish when it mattered most. Not like he has any experience with that or anything.
And of course...
BizNasty is way ahead of us:
Save your energy guys, I got this one. Hey @BizNasty2point0, your goalie has more goals than you. #YouSuck #Plug
