Mike Shott with his first piece for the site reminded us of how the numbers 4 and 7 went well together for the Phoenix Coyotes this past season. The number 47 is also connects two former Desert Dog players. It is the number of goals former Coyotes forward Mike Johnson and former assistant captain and defensemen Ed Jovanovski scored during their respective careers with the Yotes. Interestingly enough each also played 5 season with Phoenix's hockey franchise though never together.
Johnson finished his NHL career with 129 total goals. Fans of his can still keep track of the Scarborough, Ontario native through his Twitter account and by watching him do hockey commentary for TSN and the NHL network. While Johnson's last played in the NHL over 4 years ago, Jovo Cop continues to patrol the ice in the league. After his fifth season with Phoenix in 2010-2011, Jovanovski signed with the team who originally drafted him, the Florida Panthers. The 36 year old blueliner can continue to add to his career total of 136 goals when he returns to the ice this coming season in South Florida. His current contract doesn't run out until after the 2013-2014 season, so reaching the 150 goal mark before his career ends is certainly possible.
