The Phoenix Coyotes preseason starts up in 49 days and we are going to hop in our time machine to see how the number 49 has played a role in the franchise's history. To do that we are going to go back to the first seven season that the Coyotes were in Phoenix and one of the great defensemen and one of our former Captains. Teppo Numminen had 269 regular season points as a Coyote and he played in 551 in his seven seasons, for a total of .49 points per game as a Desert Dog.
Teppo Numminen was drafted twenty-ninth overall in the 1986 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. His first season was the 1988-89 season with the OG Jets where he was 1-14-15 and was a -11. Numminen was the second person to wear the "C" as a Coyote and one of only 3 players to do so. He is still one of the teams leading scorers and his number was retired by the Coyotes into the Ring of Honor on January 30th, 2010
