Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney made, what could be described as his most important signing of the off-season so far, by inking Defenseman Keith Yandle to a new contract on Tuesday. The Coyotes 5th round draft pick in 2005 signed a five deal, reported to be worth 26.5 million dollars.
The Boston, Massachusetts native has increased his scoring output each year he's been in the NHL. This past season he finished the year with 59 points which was second on the team behind forward Shane Doan's 60 points. The Coyotes rearguard also got his first taste of an NHL All-Star game.In addition, this past season Yandle was given additional responsibilities. Coach Dave Tippet played him and his main pairing partner Derek Morris against other team's top lines. Yandle was also an alternate captain on the squad for the first time.
Coming of an all-star year and with the signing of a long term deal, expectations will be high the young blueliner this coming season.
