So much for Phoenix Coyotes GM Don Maloney not making any deals on deadline day. He comes out swinging with a big one involving two former first round picks. The big question is does this deal make the Coyotes better now and/or for the future? I'm not sure it does either, especially given Klesla's health issues. The Coyotes lose a player tied for the team lead in goal scoring without a young prospect who can likely fill his role. Upside? I'm not seeing any minus having a young defensemen locked up versus losing Upshall for nothing come this offseason.
Players coming to Phoenix:
Byers has spent the entire season in the AHL with Springfield. He's a former Ranger prospect which probably doesn't surprise anyone who has followed GMDM's past moves. For his career stats click here.
