Tonight's the night for the Philadelphia Flyers. It's gotten to the point that it's not quite win-or-go-home, but there's a reason only 2 teams prior to this year's Flyers came back from 0-3 deficits to win a series. And I don't think this Blackhawks team has the questions that the Bruins had facing them. So the Flyers will be well served to play off the emotions of the crowd, Kate Smith's "God Bless America" and everything else and make this a series. Whoever you are cheering for, I think you can agree that it's not time for hockey to be over for this year...so Let's Go Flyers!
Two charity items to bring out before the jump...
MORRIS AND NASH TO SERVE AS GUEST BARTENDERS AT RA SUSHI TO RAISE FUNDS FOR NICKY'S WEEK - Phoenix Coyotes - News
If you are free tomorrow night to grab some sushi up at Kierland, you can have your drinks served by Derek Morris and Tyson Nash (I'd recommend hitting up Nasher...he seems like a bit of an alky ;)
#NashvilleFlood Relief #NHLtweetup | NHLTweetup.com
NHL Tweetup has a bunch of hockey-related items that are being auctioned on eBay to raise money for Nashville Flood relief. Check it out and see if there's something that strikes your interest to help this great cause.
After the jump, #NHLicecream - the latest reason you need a Twitter account, I break one of my rules so that we can bash on another G&M "reporter", sports hate, a truly heartbreaking story and all the Chris Pronger that you can handle :)Ok, as we here are well familiar, Twitter memes can have a life of their own. Yesterday, Puck Daddy decided that nobody actually wanted to do work on their first day back from a long weekend:
Which led to this gloriousness:
Stanley Cup Final produces huge TV ratings - From The Rink
Stanley Cup Final TV ratings are in -- and the NHL should be pleased. How will this affect its next TV deal?
Return of the Whalers not on horizon, NHL says - The Globe and Mail
Former owner of Hartford NHL franchise is making noise about wanting the league to return to the city, but it's unlikely...our favorite G&M author, doing yeoman's work as always.
Now here's where I break my own rule and a general rule of this blog. What is this rule? Well, it's really twofold. Basically, we don't post items from Hockeybuzz or Bleacher Report. It is for a variety of reasons, none personal, but generally they involve the methods these sites use and the quality and accuracy of their content. That being said, in the past Darren Pang wrote for Hockeybuzz and some of their authors are good guys. I don't know much about Paul McCann, but his take down of Stephen Brunt's latest G&M article (which I can't find online) seems pretty solid:
HockeyBuzz.com - Paul McCann - Flood Relief, Brunt Column and Game Two Thoughts
I'll just leave it there for you to peruse. I wouldn't expect to see much more from Hockeybuzz, but those points he's making are pretty much everything we've been saying for over a year...nice to see other people are catching on.
Friends, Family Race Against Time for Mandi Schwartz -- NHL FanHouse
Ok, break out the Kleenex...seriously, if you have trouble getting through the end of Christmas season movies on Lifetime, then I recommend you just skip that article, ok?
For the Love of Hatred in the Stanley Cup Playoffs - Puck Daddy - NHL - Yahoo! Sports
Justin Bourne with another solid piece over at Puck Daddy. Seriously, people...if you are not reading Bourne's stuff, I just don't know what to tell you...
Hurricanes and Coyotes to play Russian clubs - NHL.com - News
Oh my God...it's Coyotes news! Like actual news about the Coyotes. Not that it is meaningful, but isn't it nice to have every once in a while...
Top 3 NHL Playoff Surprises for 2010 | nhl
It is crazy how long ago Game 7 against Detroit feels now. I recognize that it was almost 6 weeks ago, but it just feels like this season ended too soon...
Mitch’s Mock NHL Draft – 13th Overall | Crash The Crease
I am no expert when it comes to prospects, and this is the first mock draft I've seen that has discussed a potential Coyotes pick at #13. So take it with a grain of salt, but I like this kid...
Finally, I know that some (most) of you have nothing but uncontrollable hatred (perhaps limited to "sports hate," but perhaps more) for Chris Pronger. I was among you all too recently before I started watching him play regularly and seeing just how great a defenseman he is. That being said, his recent antics are pure joy from either end of the spectrum:
And Down Goes Brown provides a list of Pronger's other jerk moves...
Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals is tonight at 5 PM local time. I will be out getting blitzed hoping that the Flyers bring their game 2 third period intensity to an entire 60 minutes. Enjoy!
