Phoenix Coyotes' Special Teams Beat The Red Wings
[Box Score] - [Game Page]- [Detroit Reaction]

The final meeting of the season between the Phoenix Coyotes and the Detroit Red Wings featured the usual back and forth action we've come to expect when the two meet. What was surprising this time around was both team's power plays combined for three special teams goals. While Detroit out shot Phoenix (31 -23) and was the better team in the faceoff circle (57% to 43%), the Desert Dogs were the team to come away victorious by a score of 3-1.
Detroit Red Wings @ Phoenix Coyotes Preview: Last Chance Saloon
The team that has given the Phoenix Coyotes and their fans nightmares the last two postseasons is on tap this evening. The Detroit Red Wings have won seven in a row against the Desert Dogs, including last year's playoff sweep. Phoenix looks to turn things around this evening at Jobing.com Arena at 6p.m. MST. The early start time is due to the game airing nationally on the NBC Sports Network. Tonight's contest is the final regular season meeting between the two squads.
The Red Wings are coming off an overtime loss on the road to Edmonton on Saturday night. Though they lost the game they did force overtime by erasing a two goal deficit in the third period. They lead the Western Conference with 72 points. The one bright spot in the Wings record for tonight is Mike Babcock's team has not played as well on the road as they have at home.
The Coyotes have only scored six goals in the three prior games against the Wings this season. All six goals were by forwards, including two by Radim Vrbata. The Coyotes blueline needs to involve themselves more in the offense tonight. In addition, Phoenix needs to get contributions from all three of their forward lines like they did on Saturday against San Jose. The Yotes are four points out of a playoff birth with thirty games to go. They need to find a way to come away with points, preferably two, this evening.
Dog Caller - February 6, 2012 - Arizona Sundogs Not So Happy On The Road
Captain Tyler Butler received Player of the Week Honors
The Arizona Sundogs began their near month-long road trip with two games against the Missouri Mavericks this week.
The teams met for the first game on Friday night and Missouri took control of the game early, scoring two powerplay goals in the first, an even-strength goal in the second, and then another powerplay goal early in the third. With the Mavericks on yet another powerplay, Sundogs' forward Jesse Perrin got his team on the board with a shorthanded goal, assisted by Craig Macdonald and Corey Toy. Arizona would cut further into Missouri's lead with a powerplay goal of its own, scored by forward Kevin Petovello, assisted by Daymen Rycroft and Olivier Proulx. With time running out, the Sundogs would pull their goalie, leading to a goal by captain and defenseman Tyler Butler, assisted by Olivier Proulx and Daymen Rycroft. Arizona would be unable to get the tying goal before the final buzzer however. The Sundogs totaled 32 shots and goalie Scott Reid made 22 saves on 26 shots.

The Phoenix Coyotes defeated their Pacific Conference Rival the San Jose Sharks 5-3 at Jobing.com Arena last night. The Sharks took an early lead but the Yotes managed to come back and control the game with Lauri Korpikoski netting two goals. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.
In today's tracks we have the post game coverage, some news from the Portland Pirates, and news from the hockey world.

It's games like tonight that make me even more frustrated as a Phoenix Coyotes fan. The San Jose Sharks are one of the best teams in the league, sit atop the Pacific Division 12 points in front of the 'Yotes coming in to tonight's game. So it's easy to expect the team that just got shellacked by Anaheim a few nights back to get beat up pretty good. Not tonight, as the Coyotes brought their A game to Glendale and matched everything the Sharks threw at them.
Huge game from Lauri Korpikoski who scored two on the night, including the game winner early in the third period. Korpi has been a bit silent in recent weeks, but he was making his presence known all over the ice tonight on a new unit with Boyd Gordon and Shane Doan, who each had two assists on the goals by Korpikoski. Radim Vrbata and Martin Hanzal also found the back of the net and added assists on the other's goal with Hanzal scoring a fluky bounce goal off the stick of Brent Burns in the final minute of the second period and Vrbata adding an empty netter - Ray Whitney assisted on both goals.
