With the 12th overall selection in the 2013 NHL Draft, the Phoenix Coyotes selected Max Domi of the London Knights.

Newark, NJ - Max Domi is a vastly different player from his father, Tie, who played in the NHL for 17 seasons. The Phoenix Coyotes took the younger Domi with the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft Sunday.

Although Domi does not resemble his dad on the ice, he says he has learned a very important trait from him that he hopes secures a roster spot in the NHL someday. "He played 17 years in the NHL. His job was not easy at all. He did whatever it took to win. He came to the rink with a smile on his face. I've tried to implement that into my game," said Domi.

"He did whatever it took to make the NHL and I'm prepared to do the same," said Domi. "You've seen him play and you've seen me play. We're pretty different for sure," added the younger Domi.

Domi was ecstatic to be drafted so high in the draft. "It's unbelievable. It was a dream come true. It feels unbelievable. It's hard to put it into words. I'm excited to be part of such a terrific organization," said Domi.

He said he hadn't really paid much attention to the ownership saga in Phoenix, but that will change now that he is part of the organization. "I really didn't know where I'd be going. I hadn't paid much attention, but I'll do some background research now,"

Domi was selected higher than some scouting services predicted in part due to a strong playoff performance. He registered 11 goals and 21 assists in 21 playoff games. "Our team got hot in the playoffs. When we're playing good, we're a hard team to beat," said Domi of his London Knights run to the Memorial Cup.
