The Phoenix Coyotes signed 20-year-old forward Tyler Gaudet to a three-year entry level contract, as first reported by TSN's Bob McKenzie.
PHX signs free agent centre Tyler Gaudet from Soo Greyhounds of the OHL. Three-year entry level deal.— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) November 4, 2013
Gaudet is in his second season with the Soo Greyhounds, scoring 10 goals and 22 points in 16 games this season. In 34 games with the Greyhounds last season, the 6' 3" center scored three goals and eight points.
Much like current Portland Pirates forward Brendan Shinnimin in 2012, Gaudet is playing his overage season in the Canadian Hockey League, after going undrafted, before signing with an NHL team as a free agent.
Gaudet will finish the season in the OHL before joining the Coyotes organization per Sarah McLellan of The Arizona Republic. He is already AHL eligible and will likely be assigned to the Pirates when the Greyhounds finish their season.
