It's been far too long since we've had a game thread here at the site, so we decided today's gold medal game was the perfect occasion to talk hockey again here at Five for Howling. . While today's game doesn't involve the Coyotes, it does involve a Coyotes prospect. The Desert Dog's 2011 1st round pick Connor Murphy is playing defense for Team USA.
The United States last won the U-20 World Championships in 2010, while the Swedes won last year's tournament. If you haven't been watching this year's tourney prior to today's matchup we'll give you a couple of players to look out for. Anaheim draftee John Gibson has been stellar in goal for the U.S., while his teammate Calgary draftee Johnny Gaudreau has been on a tear the last three games. Gaudreau leads the tournament with 7 goals. For Sweden you'll want to keep your eye on captain Filip Forsberg. He's a Washington prospect dripping with skill. While Russia's tandem, Canada's Malcolm Subban, and Ginson have been the most talked about netminders, Sweden's Niklas Lundstrom, a St. Louis prospect, has quietly had a good tournament. He's ranked third in the tournament with a .931 save percentage. If you want an in depth preview of the game check out this one from Chris Peters at The United States of Hockey.
