The Phoenix Coyotes called up 7 players today to help with this evening's practice scrimmage.
The Coyotes have recalled 7 players from their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates, for tonight's Red and White scrimmage at Jobing.com arena. The team called up the players in order to have enough players to be able to play the mock game similar to a regular NHL game. Normally, this isn't an issue during training camp, but with this year's shortened season and 5 day camp things are a little different. In addition, forwards Shane Doan and Boyd Gordon are nursing injuries and aren't expected to play this evening. The Coyotes only recalled four players to start camp this weekend.
The seven players recalled were forwards Chris Brown, Chris Conner, Rob Klinkhammer, Brendan Shinnimin and Justin Szwarz as well as defensemen Brandon Gormley and Chris Summers. Summers is the only player of the seven who has donned a Coyotes jersey in a regular season game. Klinkhammer and Connor have played in the NHL, but for other organizations.
Tonight's scrimmage is free to the public and begins at 6 p.m.
