We are just 22 days away from the first Phoenix Coyotes preseason game of the 2012-2013 season. The number 22 used to be worn by former Coyote Lee Stempniak.
Stempniak was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 3, 2010. The Coyotes traded away Matt Jones, a 2010 4th round draft pick and a 2010 7th round draft pick in exchange for Stempniak. This would go down as one of the best trades in Coyotes history.
Stempniak scored 14 goals and 18 points in 18 games to end the 2009-2010 season. He followed it up the next season with 19 goals and 38 points. Stempniak played 100 games with the Coyotes scoring 33 goals and 56 points. Toronto traded away both picks they received and Matt Jones has yet to play in another NHL game.
Come back later today as we will discuss a few more of the best trades in Phoenix Coyotes history.
