Building on the 2011-12 Season, Free Agents available for the Yotes

Here is a link to the site I found the list of potential free agents on.

We had a great season (despite that bitter end to LA). And we are incredibly close to being considered legitimate title contenders for years to come. Only there is one problem; we don't have that big time scorer/superstar to lift us into that next tier of the elite.

So what do we do? Who do we target? I don't have a concrete plan but it will probably be a painful process, we may need to let go of some young players to trade for someone or dump a few excellent veterans to make some cap space.

First thing first, the players we should keep on our roster by position (in my opinion):

Centers: Martin Hanzal, Antonie Vermette, Kyle Chipchura, Patrick O'Sullivan, Andy Miele

Left/Right Wingers: Shane Doan, Mikkel Boedker, Radim Vrbata, Raffi Torres, Taylor Pyatt, Boyd Gordon, Paul Bissonnette

Defensemen: Keith Yandle, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Rostislav Klesla, Derek Morris, Michal Rozsival, David Rundblad

Goalies: Mike Smith, Louis Domingue

Players that could fills roles with the Coyotes

Centers: Jason Arnott, Chris Kelly, Jay McClement

Left Wingers: Alexander Semin, Ryan Smith, Andrei Kostitsyn, Sean Avery, Alexei Ponikarovsky,

Right Wingers: Brad Boyes, David Jones, David Moss

Defensmen: Pavel Kubina, Matt Carle, Hal Gill

There isn't a very deep Free Agency coming up this season which means the Yotes will more than likely need to move young players for goal scorers. However, all of these guys above feel like they could step into Phoenix and really give us a boost.

Semin and Ryan Smith feel like long shots on the offensive line but I feel like we could give them good cases. Semin could become the goal scorer and emerge from behind Ovi and Smith could be an identical Doan. This could give us two lines featuring athletic centers, a goal scorer, and a physical winger, wow.

On defense, we don't need to sign a new player or really make a move but adding physicality with Gill wouldn't hurt and either Kubina or Carle could provide some much need playoff experience and a good all-around defenseman.

To clarify:

Most people may notice that above that Ray Whitney didn't make my roster needs and that's because we can't expect Whitney to continue his amazing play at above 40 for much longer, upgrading him should be high on our priority list.

Others may also have noticed that Lauri Korpikoski didn't make the list either and that is because I feel he, Brett MaClean, and Brandon Gormley will be the young players moved for additional players. I like them all as Coyotes but we will need to move them to reach the next level. Lauri isn't a goal scorer, MaClean isn't living up to the hype yet and Gormley will sweeten any deal to get a top tier player.

What do you guys think? We need something, and we need it fast. The Kings look like perennial contenders already, Nashville is getting better, and the Pacific Division is always a close race. If we want to win, we need to make a big splash this year.
