I guess GMDM's claims of "standing pat" at the trade deadline carry a few caveats: TSN reports that the Blue Jackets will be sending Vermette to Phoenix in exchange for two draft picks, and reportedly Curtis McElhinney. Reaction after the jump.

One of the bigger question marks going into this season was centerline depth, and it looks like GMDM wasn't particularly pleased with where they were at this point in time. Vermette's having a bit of a down year (8 goals and 19 assists), but he's solid in the faceoff circle, decent enough on defense, and maybe most importantly, brings deep playoff experience from his run to the Cup Finals with Ottawa in 2007. Another good thing is that the team didn't have to ship anyone on the big club off somewhere else, although I am a little concerned now about the depth at goaltending in the organization, if Vermette can contribute some secondary scoring and keep up the good work taking faceoffs this should be a decent pickup for Phoenix.
