Diving is a pretty serious accusation. If a player "sells the penalty" that's one thing but for a referee to tell the coach that the player is diving that's something else.

I really like the idea of the All Star Game being with the Winter Classic
If it’s still going to be a meaningless spectacle, why not make the spectacle more impressive?
Living proof that hockey fans CAN be born in the desert.

I’ll pass, though due more to my thoughts on the all-star concept period (more in this week’s Roundtable). I’d rather watch the meaningless alumni games.

there's pros and cons for combining them
On the one hand if they were combined you probably wouldn’t get the checking we normally want from a hockey game. But since more people are watching the winter classic than the all star it would be nice to give the nonhockey fan the “best” of the NHL and a very high scoring game.
I think it would be cool if the players actually selected who goes to the all star game. It would be interesting to see who they would select. And while you are at it select the best players for the skills competition so we can see the fastest skater, sharpest shooter. Even if they don’t play in the all star game. Kinda like a mini hockey Olympics. That will bring out some competition and bragging rights.

question I had from the coyotes carnival
Don mentioned he doesn’t really look for trades in the west much and rarely in the pacific. I was wondering how much a 4 division realignment would effect that. Now you would have 3/4 of the teams in the same boat as easy trade partners since they are outside your division. There would still be few trades in the division since you don’t want to help those you will play all the time. I think a lot more trades will happen when the GMs realize this. Then there will be a lot more no trade clauses. What do you guys think?

my opinion
first you have to get the players association to approve the realignment. As a business major though i realize there is a lot more that goes into business decisions than what the owners tell you and player trades are a business decision. With the scouting that goes on now it seems like there is a lot of forethought that goes into selecting a player so I’m not sure that trades would really be affected by realignment. It may also decrease trades because teams will be playing each other two times a year instead of once, so higher ups may consider other teams to be more of a competition than previously. Realignment will probably change the way GM’s trade though but it will probably take a couple years for them to catch up.
I don’t think there will be more or less trades if the new CBA is similar to the current one. The Cap and the new CBA will be much bigger determinants of how things shake out than potential realignment. However, I agree GM’s will still be loathe to trade within their division.
