Leafs fan here; I can’t see Bryzgalov coming to us in the summer. At the very least, Reimer’s stellar play over the past few months should be enough to earn him the starter role out of the gate next season. I think going out and signing a reliable back-up to Reimer would be the smarter choice (I’m not yet sold on Gustavsson being that ‘reliable’ choice). Not sure what UFA goalies are available, but I’ve heard Alex Auld’s name being tossed around recently.
Plus, thoughwe will have a lot of cap space to play with, I think Bryzgalov will want to go somewhere that he’ll be the clear-cut #1 goalie…and be asking for a significant chunk of change. I think Brian Burke will be wary of the price tag, given his current goaltender situation.
Once the deal to keep the team here is done he’ll get re-signed. He and his family love it here.
