Kyle Turris Ends Holdout, Signs 2 Year Deal With Phoenix Coyotes
It's finally over. With 8 days left until his NHL career was going to go down the tubes for the season, Kyle Turris has signed a 2 year deal with the Coyotes. He's taking significantly less than the 3 million or so he was reportedly asking for. In year one he'll make 1.2 million and in year two 1.6 million. That's the deal he really held out for right there. Hope his agent really loves his commission off that one.
Turris will likely be playing on the big club at this point rather than spending time in Portland. They're also waiting for him to clear a physical before being able to play. I'd expect some time after Thanksgiving as he'll have to get some practice time in. It'll also give the Coyotes some flexibility at center with Daymond Langkow out for the time being. Expect Kyle Chipchura to head back to Portland for the time being.

do you really want someone
who is on the record as saying he wants to leave your team
to play for your team because you wouldn’t let him leave?

Depends. If he can suck it up and earn a contract somewhere then whatever. If he’s going to be petulant he can poison his own well.

JaredFromLondon: ...Odin, he's cool.
meanwhile
you’ll be paying him for another 2 years and he could be a drag on his teammates
isn’t the obvious answer to trade him
(and I’m not saying this as a roundabout way because I want him traded to the Canucks… I don’t!)

Well, now the Coyotes have much more time to trade him, and this seemingly good contract makes him even more tradeable, I think.

Not only that, but Tippett certainly isn’t going to give him ice-time if he’s not willing to give 100%. If he wants to be a chemistry problem, he’s not going to play.

How do you pronouce his surname correctly?
I’ve always thought it was Tur-Rus, although I’ve heard Too-rece and ta-rece.
Although for the next while I will still pronouce it ‘whiny holdout baby’ (at least until he proves he wants to play)

Final word on this
Goes to @BizNasty2point0:
As punishment for his hold out, Kyle Turris must play on my line. But seriously, Welcome back Turry.

Never have understood the level of bitterness on this one, but then again anytime there are issues like this fans take it personal. No doubt he made a poor choice or two in this whole ordeal, but he was quiet throughout and didn’t respond to all the stuff on Twitter. If he shows that type of maturity on the ice and with the coaching staff I’m thinking this episode will be quickly forgotten.

I agree completely. He’s a kid, and he’s certainly not the first to stupidly demand a trade. But it seems like he wasn’t getting great advice from his agent either. Let’s see what he does when he reports and how his interactions are with team and media. If the fans start booing though when he touches the puck, I think they are just wrong.

I wouldn’t boo him the moment he touches the puck – at the end of the day, he is wearing that coyote on the front of his chest, he’s my boy. Same with Raffi Torres – until he pulled on the brick red, I hated him. Now, he’s on my team. He’s my boy.
If Turris shows up, shows that he wants to prove himself, and plays hard, all will be forgiven.
If Turris acts like a spoit brat, causes locker room problems and basically pulls a Muller, then f*ck him. He might as well spit on the logo and Fans at that point.

I will reserve judgement on this till he gets 5 games under his belt. If he plays as hard as Bodker does then I’ll be ok with it. If he is blah about it or poisons the locker room. I say get rid of him. I want to give him a couple of games to try and get his legs back and show how much he wants to play hockey.

He definitely needs time to adjust and probably as much as a month to really get up to speed. Not sure if he will be heading to Portland to get his conditioning up or not, but I’d say we can’t really judge anything until January.

I still think he is gone at the deadline...
unless he has some magical chemistry with his linemates upon his return (of course giving him a few games to acclimate)… That contract is about where he should be based on production, and the “potential” factor is still quite big, so a team looking for a good young center may be willing to part with a good piece for him since they would have him next year as well (at a good price)… I do like the Coyotes lineup better with him in it, but if he doesn’t want to be in Phoenix then that will most likely show up on the ice and in the locker room. Hopefully this isn’t the case during his upcoming tenure with the Yotes.
