Coyotes Weekend Wrapup - Yotes Sign Ebbett and Assorted Minor Leaguers

With everyone busy (everyone=me) this July 4th weekend, I neglected to post on some of the recent Coyotes signings from late Friday and Saturday so HERE! YOU! GO!

Friday the Coyotes signed oft traded/waived/pickedup center Andrew Ebbett. Ebbett played for the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild over the course of the season. He didn't have that great of a year as he ended up 9-6-15 in 61 games with the 3 teams.

He's been up and down between the NHL and AHL with the different teams he's been on and is a bit undersized, but he's a decent option on the 3rd or 4th lines if Kyle Turris can't step up this year.

The Coyotes also signed several guys to fill roster spots in the AHL. 3 of whom were previously with the Dallas Stars organization and Dave Tippett knows well. Right wing Mathieu Beaudoin, defenseman Garrett Stafford and goaltender Matt Climie are all likely AHL level talent and won't see any time in Phoenix barring some act of god or half the team being food-poisoned. Defensemen Nolan Yonkman was brought over from the Milwaukee Admirals where he was captain of the team. He's played in a hand full of NHL games, but that was a few years back. He too looks to be a career minor league guy.

JS from Hockey Wilderness here...

I think you’re going to like Ebbett. He’s posted some pretty good numbers considering the roles he played in the various teams he bounced around in. For the Wild, he started on fire until a hit to the head from Jovocop (awkward!) derailed his season. He played between our dynamic duo of Latendresse and Havlat for a while, but he clearly isn’t suited for a second line role just yet, but maybe someday…

I can also give you an example of his never-say-die attitude: During a game in which he replaced Koivu on the top line, he played with some sort of flu. Regardless of his repetitive vomiting between shifts, he gave it his all, even if his all wasn’t necessarily his best at the time.

He won’t necessarily dazzle you, but he can show flashes of brilliance and he’s still pretty young. It’s a shame we couldn’t have him very long. Enjoy!

Don is optimistic that we can get hanzal back. I don’t there is a whole lot of interest on Lee since no one knows which Lee we will get, the Ninja or the Peasant.

I don't think he knew what the interest would be either

Which is why he went to market to see what the offers were. I’m guessing less than what his agent hoped for.

Z4defence

talked to GMDM saturday at rookie camp, and he said the hanzal deal is about done….an offer has been made for stemps, still on his honeymoon and not a lot of progress there….the young’uns looked pretty good…OEL and gorms both smooth and OEL has a wicked wrister from the top that surprised a couple of the goalies…..
