Coyotes Sign Ray Whitney to 2 Year Deal

The Coyotes jumped into the Free Agency fray a little bit ago with the signing of veteran left wing Ray Whitney to a 2 year 6 million dollar deal. Whitney, 38, scored 21 goals and added 37 assists with the Hurricanes this past season. He's a solid pick up that has consistently put up numbers. At only 3 million per this seems like a good deal for the Coyotes who will likely be losing some power up front if Matthew Lombardi or Lee Stempniak can't get a deal done soon.

Is nobody else excited about this pickup?

Yeah he’s 38 but I saw him last year and looked to still have quite a bit of stuff left in the tank. A 38 y/o Stanley Cup champion with loads of skill to help out our PP and take the wing on our 2nd unit, yeah, I like this. If Lambo stays they would be a killer duo.

Dont

really know much about him. He has the exp, but age might be a factor. We’ll see in the first couple games.

Canes fan here to congratulate you guys on the Whitney deal. You’re gonna love him, and I can guarantee he wont stay on your 3rd line, hes your best player after Doan, put him on the 1st. Ray Whitney is widely regarded around the league as the most underrated player in the NHL. Allow me to introduce him to those that dont know him…..

From a Caniac...

Congrats on the pickup. I am so depressed to see him go. He’s a top-3 guy without question and an amazing playmaker. He makes everyone around him better and you’ll be amazed to see some of the plays he’ll be involved in. Again, soooo depressed about this happening, he’d been a large part of the org. (our org) for a long time now. You guys picked up the best forward (after Kovy) on the market. I’ll have to find some Phoenix games on line so I can watch my favorite ‘Cane! er..Coyote! Stop by CanesCountry if anyone’s interested in finding out more about their new star player.
