Coyote Tracks - Just Another Monday June 14 Edition
It was a relatively quiet weekend for the Phoenix Coyotes in the news front as we haven't heard much more about Ice Edge ownership or free agent signings. I'm sure that this will change in the next week...
The only real news from the Coyotes camp was of the tragic variety:
Jukka Nieminen: A tragic loss
Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Coyotes massage therapist Jukka Nieminen, who died suddenly this week, just days before his wedding.
Just a sad story all around...our thoughts and prayers join with the Coyotes organization and all of Nieminen's friends and family...

Phoenix Coyotes: The Coyotes say they will use more kids next season in an effort to basically do what the Blackhawks did, much like every other relatively young team in the league. Kyle Turris(notes) is expected to be one of the players they use at the NHL level, but I feel like I said that last year too and look how that worked out.
And Bournes response
The Coyotes have some decent talent waiting in the wings. Here’s something I never imagined I’d say 12 months ago: I’m excited about the Coyotes roster. Wolski FTW!

A couple of players I'd be interested to see in Yote's sweaters
Thoughts or comments?
Spezza from the Sens?
Carter from the Flyers?

I don’t have much interest in Spezza, but Carter would be intriguing for this team (and expensive!). Not sure who we could offer to the Flyers in exchange for him…maybe the rights to Michalek before he hits free agency and one of the kids? I think that’s probably too rich a deal to get involved in right now for GMDM.

Yeah thats the problem with the situation – don’t know if we have the budget.
Just imagining
1st Wolski – Spezza/Carter – Stemp
2nd Pyatt – Lombo – Doan

Oh shit
I totally forgot Scottie!
Maybe put Scottie on the seccond line insted of Doan
Doan on the third line to give them some grit, scoring and experience..

I would be very surprised if given our cap situation we can bring back Wolski, Stempniak, Lombo and Pyatt. I would say it’s more likely that Wolski and Pyatt are back next year. Maybe Stempniak or Lombo, but either guy may get priced out of GMDM’s budget.

good points
If we have to choose I say hold on to Stemp over lombo – we’ve got some young guys coming on through or can pick someone up cheaper.
If Stemp goes then Upshall on the first line with Wolski and someone.
I have a soft spot for Pyatt…still debating getting a jersey made for him

Yeah, the name change just went through a few hours ago. Trying to legitimize a bit in order to aid in our attempts to get press credentials for next season. I imagine them seeing my real name will improve those chances over “Moridin417” although that Moridin character is a charming guy really ;)

Well, it didn’t help the Coyotes any, I can agree…but I think it was good for his development. Who knows though what will be his future. He has the speed/hands to be an all-star, but he needs the will and a bit of bulk to get into the right spots and win pucks.

Sure.
But Growing a year is different than doing nothing. He’s still a little on the small side, but not like he was in 08-09

Yeah, he’s just going to be a project is all. I have no doubt that he has the ability to be a performer at this level, I just hope that he has the will. I worry that he will pull a Mueller and just not want to work as hard as he needs to.

See
I never got that at all from him. When he was up he was trying, but he shouldn’t have been here yet. He was frustrated by the size and speed at the time, but hopefully has grown into himself a little bit with the time in SA.

It might’ve been a frustration thing as to the size and speed, but I just didn’t see him going to the areas that you need to in order to make plays. It’s not to say that I thought he didn’t show some flashes where I saw why they selected him 3rd overall. And I hope he has filled out a bit and is ready to jump right in next year.

RIght
But that was his first year straight out of school. He wasn’t going there because he was getting demolished out there and the coaching staff (Gretz) wasn’t giving him any real way to get around it. He’s looked a lot better in the film I’ve seen out of SA. We’ll know for sure come training camp.

We’re as good as the AZ Coyotes. Jeresys will HAVE to be changed in time for next year…Interesting.
